Beaver Swamp Brook Flood Mitigation
Village of Mamaroneck
123 Mamaroneck Avenue
Mamaroneck, NY 10543
Amount Requested: $2,000,000
The Village of Mamaroneck requests funding to advance the Beaver Swamp Brook Flood Mitigation and Resiliency Project at High Risk Area 1. With persistent severe tidal and stormwater flooding from storm events threatening the community, this project will widen and stabilize the channel and relocate a critical sanitary sewer main that is currently vulnerable to damage and flooding, affecting 39 residential properties. These improvements were identified as urgent priorities in the 2024 Beaver Swamp Brook Flood Mitigation and Resilience Report prepared for the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, which highlighted sewer relocation and channel improvements as critical to reducing flood risks and safeguarding public infrastructure. A narrow pedestrian bridge (removal outside project scope) and its abutments further constrict flow, worsening upstream flooding during storms and high tides.
Federal nexus: The project has a federal nexus because the funding provided is consistent with purposes authorized in 42 U.S.C. 5305(a)(2).
