The purpose of this project is to replace 39 outdated, original water pumps and pump bases to improve water and operating efficiencies. This project will also decrease interruptions in cooling, heating, and domestic water service to the building and townhouse clusters under within Co-Op city. This is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will ensure domestic water supply to the community of over 50,000 residents, particularly during extreme weather events. The Department of Housing and Urban Development has long worked to improve the conditions within Co-Op City for its residents and this will continue that work.
Federal nexus: The project has a federal nexus because the funding provided is consistent with purposes authorized in 42 U.S.C. 5305(a)(2) and 5305(a)(4).
