The bipartisan bill, co-led by Congressman Mark Alford (MO-04), also passed unanimously out of the House Committee on Small Business in March.

WASHINGTON, DC – This morning U.S. Representative George Latimer (NY-16) voted against the House Republican majority’s budget that will take away vital healthcare and food assistance from millions of Americans.

Rep. Latimer said: “This is America’s worst budget ever. This is essentially a tax scam to help the wealthiest Americans and take away healthcare and food assistance from people who need it to survive. It is so harmful and unpopular that Republicans had the debate in the middle of the night and the vote before America woke up.

The proposed project will transform the currently abandoned Port Chester Gymnasium into a revitalized indoor space with new multi-purpose rooms that will be suited for a variety of community-based activities. Additionally, this initiative would increase the functionality of the space through renovation of the gymnasium, bathroom facilities, kitchen, and storage rooms, giving it the potential to be converted into an emergency shelter.

Amount requested: $1,600,000

This funding would be used to fund an ADA-compliant sidewalk across a heavily trafficked stretch of Benedict Avenue to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity. This project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will provide pedestrian infrastructure and ensure safe passage across a major pedestrian thoroughfare that currently does not have a walkway.
